This is a real issue and Stephen A Smith mentioned in the YouTube wrap up today. Inner City Ball players need to be really careful who they listen to and ultimately who they end up playing for. The league has gone global and you need real skills to get to the NBA.

The days of AAU ball dominant players are likely over if you can't read the defense and make every pass. Cats out here taking advantage of some of these kids on the prep circuit costing their families a lot of money and they may not be teaching modern basketball.

They'll still be plenty of representation from them inner city but I'm hoping we look at the coaching and player development sides of this because there is a lot of money in youth sports and I hope our community isn't getting pimped out and having high mileage put on their bodies with nothing to show for it

The issue in the US is visibility. Kids and bad coaches have kids practice razzle dazzle abilities because unless you're on the big AAU circuits or play for a powerhouse HS, social media is the best way to get noticed. No one's gonna tune in to a video of some random kid making crisp passes for a no name HS. I'm sure lotsa colleges have a scout or student assistant going through tik tok and insta trying to find leads these days

Now those kids still end up getting offers, just usually not high major offers. And sometimes, they manage to get to the NBA.

Also American born black players are still out there in droves at the top of the league. Luka is a basketball prodigy and at the time was the best thing basically to ever come out of Europe. Jokic was also a standout in Europe before the NBA even though here is where he really flourished.

I just don't think it's fair to compare Europe's best to our average. Both Luka and Jokic have been proven to fall short against (an abundance of) American length and athleticism. Pause lol

Also year round AAU play means that there are a lot of 18-19 year olds with the knees and ankle wear of a 40 year old.

So sad when promising talents have major injuries before they commit to college

Exactly why my 10 year old grandson is still playing Roblox instead of running basketball drills.

Its probably smarter to switch up sports anyways.

Basketball is hell on the knees and ankles

That’s why a lot of young talent don’t last in the league, from the time they’re 14 they’ve already played enough ball to be considered a “vet”, by the time they make it to the league, the west and tear has already done its damage

Them boys are good for business tho. So they're increasing the value of the whole league.

The NBA is backwards too, in how it even drafts players.

The UConn Huskies were one of the most dominant college teams in history.

Tristen Newton is a winner, always makes the right plays, was an All American, and was the best player on that team..and kid is drafted 49th.

Castle and Clingan are extremely talented, but they don’t have down all those fundamentals yet - and I don’t think the NBA will really teach it to them unless they take matters into their own hands.

College used to be where a lot of this stuff was taught, but the NBA makes it more profitable for players to jump way early.

So a league with global viewership attracting foreign players is now a concern? Whose the equally talented American guard and center that these teams should have instead? Such a dumb take. In jokers case its especially egregious given his draft position to becoming a champion 3 time mvp and franchise player. I say this with every bit of disrespect, F.O.H!

I was about to roast the fuck out of you, but then I remembered you’re just doing this to earn your bread rations. Still, go fuck yourself

I hope you over sleep and they run out of bread by the time you get there
